John BarkhousePresident and Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Barkhouse joined Newalta as President and Chief Executive Officer in 2014. He is responsible for building on the overall success of Newalta and for creating, planning and executing the strategic direction of the company. Mr. Barkhouse is a seasoned executive with extensive experience building and growing companies in North America and internationally. He brings deep engineering, planning and operational expertise to Newalta along with a strong focus on customer relationships. His focus on achieving safety excellence, employee engagement and establishing a leadership framework has been key to his success. Prior to joining Newalta, Mr. Barkhouse was President of Bredero Shaw where he led the development of corporate strategy and the company's global expansion. He held senior leadership positions at Caterpillar Inc. with a strong operational and commercial focus. Mr. Barkhouse holds a Masters of Business Administration degree from Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois and a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Linda DietscheExecutive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer
Ms. Dietsche directs the financial operations of Newalta and ensures the company has the financial resources in place to execute its business strategy. She joined Newalta in 2003 as Assistant Controller and has held progressively responsible roles, becoming Vice President, Finance in 2012 and Chief Financial Officer in 2017. Ms. Dietsche oversees the full range of Newalta's financial functions including accounting, financial reporting, financial planning and analysis, treasury, tax, risk management, financings, investor relations and information technology. She has extensive finance experience, including leadership in the areas of debt holder and banking relations, credit facility renewals and debenture financings. Prior to Newalta, she held senior accounting roles with Mount Royal University and Ogilvy and Mather. Ms. Dietsche has a Certified Management Accountant designation and a Masters in Business Administration from Royal Roads University.
Paul KleinenSenior Vice President, Engineering and Technical Solutions
Mr. Kleinen is a Professional Engineer with 35 years of experience. He joined Newalta in 2015 to lead the integration of the Engineering and Technical Solutions groups to enable the company to deliver projects, manage capital, control costs and ultimately improve its operations. This work is vital to Newalta developing and delivering innovative solutions that are valued by customers while optimizing the service delivery model and competencies aligned with its growth strategy. Mr. Kleinen's role includes overseeing capital project planning and execution, process engineering, project management, supply chain management and the company's Environmental Services Group. Prior to joining Newalta, he was Vice President, Global Engineering and Technology at ShawCor where he managed the engineering portfolio of a pipeline coating company with 25 fixed plants and seven mobile facilities and with annual revenue of more than $1 billion. Mr. Kleinen holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of California.
Doug PecharskySenior Vice President, Operations
Mr. Pecharsky has been a vital member of the company's leadership team since he joined Newalta in 1985. He has held a number of senior positions within the Company over his career. Mr. Pecharsky is responsible for developing and implementing business strategy, measuring operational performance and driving financial results for the Oilfield and Heavy Oil divisions. He also oversees regional sales and marketing in Canada and the U.S. His strong operational leadership, aggressive approach and market knowledge have been instrumental in the development of Newalta's waste recovery technologies and applications.
Took WhiteleySenior Vice President, Corporate Development and General Counsel
Mr. Whiteley has been with Newalta since 2005. In his role as Senior Vice President, he is responsible for Corporate Development, Business Development, Strategic Planning and Legal Services. Prior to joining Newalta, Mr. Whiteley practiced corporate and securities law with Bennett Jones LLP of Calgary with a focus on corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Queen's University, a Master of Arts degree from the University of Victoria and a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Alberta. Mr. Whiteley also sits on the Board of Directors for Ronald McDonald House of Southern Alberta.
Chris BarnesVice President, Corporate Development
Mr. Barnes joined Newalta in 2014 to focus on merger and acquisition opportunities in the rapidly growing U.S. market. His knowledge of finance, industry experience and network of contacts are valuable assets to Newalta as the company expands its relationships and evaluates acquisition opportunities. Mr. Barnes has extensive experience in investment banking, including time at Lehman Brothers, Tucker Anthony Sutro, Cleary Gull and Sarowdin Partners, an investment banking firm he founded ten years ago. Over his career, he has closed more than $2 billion in M&A transactions and private/public equity financings. Mr. Barnes earned an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management and a Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering from Texas A&M University.
Bryne GramlichVice President, Heavy Oil
Mr. Gramlich joined Newalta in 1993 and has held various management positions in oilfield and industrial operations in Western Canada. He oversees the Heavy Oil Division including the long-term onsite contracts in Canada's oil sands region and the company's Heavy Oil facilities. Mr. Gramlich's previous experience includes various positions in sales and operations in the oil and gas industry in Western Canada.
Colin MerrickVice President, Corporate Services
Mr. Merrick has over 20 years of experience in corporate services. He oversees the Human Resources; Environment, Health and Safety; Corporate Communications; and Building Sevices functions of the organization. He is responsible for developing Newalta's culture of high-performance, accountability and engagement as well as implementing the policies and programs that facilitate the alignment of Newalta's vision, objectives and behaviours. Prior to joining Newalta, Mr. Merrick was Vice President, Human Resources and Health, Safety & Environment with Black Diamond Group Limited in Calgary. Prior to that, he held various senior positions at Pace Oil & Gas Ltd. and Deloitte & Touche LLP. Mr. Merrick holds a Master's degree in Organizational Management from the Fielding Institute in Santa Barbara, California and is a Business Administration graduate from Mount Royal University in Calgary.
